How the Seeds of Planet Formation Take Shape

  • Caltech researchers have discovered a new mechanism for describing planet formation, stellar winds and more.

There is also a great 4 minute video clip.

    Hopkins Lab - Magnetized Gas
"A simulation of dust (black grains) moving through magnetized gas shows how the dust clumps together. A newfound class of gas-dust instabilities, discovered by Phil Hopkins and Jonathan Squire, explains how the motion of dust through gas concentrates dust grains together. The results may help explain aspects of planet and galaxy formation, as well as other phenomena on Earth."
