"The Hidden Life of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben is a great way to get a different view on trees! They are so much more than a plant. Did you know how incredibly complicated a forest is underneath the soil? Trees are more dependent on each other they you ever knew!

Is this something you read or had a class of students read? I was just wandering what grade level this might be best suited for?

@Lindsey-Dahl I read it myself- I'm always looking at expanding my knowledge and possibly using it in class. This one might be too hard for a middle schooler- maybe an AP high school class.

@Jessica-Swann Sounds very interesting. I'll see if my library has a copy. I really like activities and books that show just how connected and interdependent all life on Earth is. One link being weakened or broken can have monumental repercussions. Have you ever encountered the theory of time travel where if someone goes back to the time of the dinosaurs and accidentally kills a butterfly, all of history from that point forward takes a drastically different path, and when the time traveler returns to his/her own time period, everything is completely different from the world the traveler knew before the unfortunate trip?

After seeing your post, I read the summary and looked at the preview of the book in google. May be I should check with my local library. Are there some chapters you would recommend for middle schoolers?
