It is hard to see how these astronauts sacrifice to make space travel. I have shown some videos for my students in the past and they see how these astronauts take up these missions with determination.

Well, we already knew about some of the effects of weightlessness, such as muscle and calcium loss, and that astronauts actually get taller in space because their spines stretch out some, so it stands to reason that there could be some sort of change in their brains, as well. They are also exposed to elements of space that the Earth's atmosphere protects us from. I'm sure that as more people travel into space, and for longer periods of time, we will learn much more about what happens to the human body. As astronauts grow older, scientists will discover the long term effects of space travel and weightlessness that will only appear as the space travelers age.
