The Opportunity Myth

The New Teacher Project has an interesting study on student achievement and college readiness that made me reflect on my lessons and approach to teaching. I would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on this article.

Most of my high school experiences weren't challenging or engaging, sadly. There was a group of us who met in the library every day during lunch, and we taught ourselves most of our subjects. Really good teachers rarely stayed more than a year. My high school was at the bottom of the scale, where academic success was measured. Now, quite some time after I graduated, every 10th grader in the school is a parent of at least one child, according to the statistics. Education in my area really needs to be re-evaluated.
